Angie & White Paisley Dress

Angie moved out today. It was pretty simple, she doesn't have much. i will miss her being around. i will miss her calling me from the kitchen telling me to come get coffee and juice and kefir. She's just moving across the canal, but it feels like very far. I'm glad we became friends. Im glad she came to stay for a while.

She helped me cut out the pattern i copied off my polka dot dress vanessa gave me before i moved to new orleans. Sometimes i feel really bad for cutting up fabric, especially when it is so pretty. i constantly have to remind myself that i am creating not destroying when i cut it up. I also have been trying not to judge myself so harshly and forgiving my mistakes. sewing is a spiritual practice, like singing and riding my bike and doing most anything i love.

i love the dress, what can i say. It's a full circle skirt, the kind my mom wouldn't even make because it was too much fabric for just a skirt. (no wonder i have issues around fabric) I haven't done all the finishing work, but here it is as it lies tonight. Ill post pictures of it done hopefully tomorrow.

Sock Garters, My Room, and Glasses

A lot has changed since i last posted, one big thing is that im back doing costuming work. Im working on JPAS' Petite Rouge production, very fun and the costumes are pretty amazing.

fall has finally come to New Orleans. My roommates are back the a/c is off. It feels wonderful and friends are on their way back. best of all, it also means its time for socks and sock garters. how i start missing those in the summer. i made these ones tonight and i really love them! hopefully ill have better pictures up soon and you can get your own in my etsy shop as soon as i do that.

Also, I'm moving out of the Shack. It's been a good run but really i'd like to live inside a house! not on a concrete slab. It's got its perks, like being able to be really loud and play ace of base at top volume late at night, but i dont like the mold in my sewing machine oil. wtf? so here's pictures of my happy abode, soon to be a memory just like all my other rooms.

ALSO its pretty amazing how not being able to see close up makes you NEVER want to do things like sew, or read, or write at all. Thank god for these guys because now im back at what i love.

xoxo

PS. and just because i miss richie.

eyesight and mercury

Well, my eyesight is going. I used to take such pride in my eagle eyes, but now. well. since Saturday my vision has gotten incredibly worse. the headaches too. it doesn't help that I've been out of work for a couple months and once i pay rent in a couple of days i will have 20 dollars.

I found a place here in New Orleans that helps poor uninsured people like me.
St. Thomas Medical Center
529-5558

It's only 20 dollars to see the Ophthalmologist and then 20 dollars cash for a pair of glasses.

At lease the headaches will stop even though they will be butt ugly charity glasses. oh well, i guess you have to do what you have to do.

Hark a Vagrant!

You know, i hadn't read or seen anything that really spoke to me about the oil spill. What it feels like and how i felt (and feel) pretty helpless until i saw this kate beaton comic. That last square where aquaman is just sitting there, well that was it. She has a website that is pretty incredible. Hark a Vagrant!

Ursula has done it again!

Urse has been given a spot on the global living website to raise donations for her project she created for urgent evoke. Her program focuses on helping make gardening easier, in hopes that making it easier will help solve problems associated with hunger and community. Sounds good to me. Check out her sight at: Ecological Unit and also take a look at the Donation sight.

Hurray for more gardens. Here is a picture of me and my sis when we were little in front of mom's potted tomatoes.

Vacation with the Kays

The Kays took me to the Caribbean. It was fantastically beautiful, amazing, overwhelming. The words don't exist for how thankful and completely humbled i felt for such sweet people to take me on such a fantastic adventure.

Can you tell i liked it?

So the adventure starts in St. Thomas at Richie's good friend Devon's house. He set us up in the sweetest little room with a bathroom where you could shower while sitting on the toilet. The view from the window was, well gauge for yourself:

The whole vacation was pretty non stop, up and down hills, up and down allies, up and down menus, up and down Islands. So much to see. Here are some of my favorite pictures:

This was taken on the Ferry to St. John

ST. John has wild donkeys! This one was so curious he came right up to me and let me pet his nose.

On the "off" day, Richie and I went on over to Tortola in the British Virgin Isles. We drank painkillers (a specialty rum drink) and wandered about.

On our last day in St. Thomas we went and snorkeled and hung out at a very nice beach that had lots of families, iguanas, and chickens.

Does this picture remind you of anything jackie?

That evening we took the ferry back on over to St. John because they were having Carnival. Lots of good food and a Socca band. Lots of kids and bouncy castles.

My computer was eaten by a dog or Sorry for the long hiatus

I was recently hanging out with my aunt on St. George Island and she said, you haven't updated your website in a while. Its true. I apologize. I could give a Thousand and One excuses so i will. I fell in love and it was mardi gras and if you've ever been in New Orleans for that you understand. If you haven't you should. My computer got eaten by a dog, so its hard to do this sort of thing at my boyfriend's house with the rooster crowing constantly, the chicken laying eggs behind the monitor and the dogs.

I've been working on cute 60s style bras:

In early April I did costumes for the Loyola Ballet Spring Concert. Besides this, I am trying to stay strong while the Gulf and my Home is filled with crude oil. Sometimes I wonder what it's actually going to take to get people to change, but most days you can pretend its not happening.
I still believe everything is real, even the imaginary.
